Mother Caroline Academy (MCA) is a tuition-free independent school for girls in grades 3-8, serving traditionally under-resourced Boston neighborhoods. “We successfully completed our first year of having a 3rd-grade class and are now celebrating our 30th anniversary of educating girls from underserved neighborhoods in Boston. The Sacred Heart and Our Lady’s Collaborative in Newton has been committed to helping us deliver our mission to help elementary/middle school girls find a path out of poverty through education.
This school year we are introducing musical instruments (ukuleles) to our students for the first time in partnership with the Handel and Haydn Society. We need 20 ukuleles ($40 each). You can support this exciting initiative by sending MCA an Amazon gift card. Alternatively, you can purchase a ukelele from MCA's AMAZON WISH LIST. Please be sure that the ukele is mailed to the following address:

Are you looking for a fun way to help those in need in the Newton community? Then please join the Collaborative’s St. Vincent de Paul conference in our first Friends of the Poor Walk! This family-friendly event will take place on Sunday, October 1, at Sacred Heart, following the Blessing of the Animals. The course will take us around Crystal Lake, a beautiful fall stroll.
Please visit fopwalk.org/event/2869 to register to walk with us (individuals and families welcome!), to donate to the event, or to support a specific walker. All the funds raised will go to work right in our community, assisting with food, clothing and housing related requests.
If you have any questions, email svdp@sholnewton.org. Join the Friends of the Poor Walk – it’s only 1.5 miles, but the funds will go a long way in helping those in need in Newton!
Our September supply of coffee from our sister parish, San Marcos, sold out, so some people didn’t get to buy coffee. For the next sale on October 7-8, if you want to be sure to have coffee saved for you, please pre-order by emailing barbara.allaire@gmail.com. Include your cell phone number, the number of whole bean or ground bags you want, and the Mass after which you will pick it up and pay for it. This premium coffee is $10 per pound. The income for the coffee farmers and their families helps them tremendously. Thanks!
