The Komi family is here, met Tuesday evening at Logan by a group of parishioners carrying flowers and balloons. They were tired travelers, their trip taking more than twenty-four hours. But there was joy too, smiling faces, hugs, and tears, as Mujahid reunited with his sister, who lives in Dorchester. Paul, 13 years old, wore a “USA” cap and Mansy, 5 years old, waved an American flag .
The family will need quiet and privacy as they adjust to their new surroundings. They will stay in the home of some parishioners in Newton and move into their Roxbury apartment September 1st.
In the coming days and weeks the Komi family will apply for a social security card, enroll in English language classes, enroll their children in school, and begin work with Jewish Vocational Services on job readiness. Members of our parishes will introduce them to the T, orient them to supermarkets and other stores, and help with many adjustments.
