FAMILY COMING FROM SUDAN
Good news! Catholic Charities has informed our collaborative that we will be welcoming a refugee family in a few weeks. They arrive on August 22nd. They are a family of five: parents, and sons ages of 13, 5, and 1. They are from the Sudan, fleeing the violence of civil war as well as drought and famine.
GETTING AN APARTMENT
Our greatest need now is housing. We are looking for an apartment with two bedrooms, with a maximum rent of $1700, ideally near public transportation. Because of the young age of two of the children, the apartment must be de-leaded or have no lead paint. We are looking primarily in Newton, Watertown, Waltham, Brighton, West Roxbury, but we are open to other locations.
FURNITURE AND HOUSEHOLD APPLIANCES
Many thanks to all who have donated furniture and bought small appliances and household goods. We ask that you bring them to the back of our churches as soon as possible.
WELCOMING THE FAMILY
Once the family arrives on August 22nd daytime drivers will be needed to connect them with Boston area resources, health and education services, and refugee support groups. The hospitality committee will organize parish events for the family and help them explore the Boston area.
