Our Racial Justice Ministry will sponsor the Archdiocese of Boston Black Catholic Choir to worship with us at the 4 p.m. Mass at Our Lady’s on
Saturday, October 28
Choir director Meyer Chambers started the group by bringing together a few members of the local Black Catholic community to celebrate Martin Luther King, Jr. Day in 1992. Over the years, the choir has traveled nationally and internationally. They have sung across the Archdiocese, in the Caribbean, in Ireland, and for Pope St. John Paul II at a general audience at the Vatican. In speaking about his choir, Meyer has said, “Though people love it when we sing concerts, we are at our best when singing the liturgy.” This is a wonderful opportunity to hear these amazing musicians at their best, and we welcome all members of the collaborative to join us at the 4 p.m. Mass on October 28.
A multicultural appetizer reception will follow. For info, e-mail Lija at [email protected].

A moving and beautiful new film, “The Letter: A Message for Our Earth” documents the invitation of Pope Francis to five individuals from diverse circumstances around the world to come to Rome and dialogue with him. These people, who represent the poor, the indigenous, youth, and wildlife, talk with the Pope about their concerns for the Earth and those who are most affected by climate change and environmental degradation, and the Pope responds to them with his wisdom and spiritual insight. The film is jointly produced by the Laudato Si Movement, the Vatican, and the award-winning Off the Fence Productions.
Pope Francis has given the world his vision of how we must care for the Earth in his 2015 encyclical letter, “Laudato Si: On Care for Our Common Home,” which he addressed to every person on the planet. May 21-27 is Laudato Si Week, the eighth anniversary of the letter.
Here in the SHOL Collaborative, our Pax Christi Newton chapter invites you to come together and view “The Letter” on Sunday, May 21, 3-5 p.m. in the lower church of Sacred Heart. The program will include prayer, viewing of the 80-minute film, and group discussion.
“The possessing of nuclear weapons is immoral.”
-Pope Francis
Nuclear war is unthinkable. Yet Russia’s war in Ukraine is reawakening alarm about the potential use of nuclear weapons. This online event will address the consequences of nuclear weapons, the global efforts to prevent their use, why we as people of conscience need to be involved, and what we actually can do to help rid the world of this threat.
