St. Vincent de Paul continues to be busy helping our neighbors in need and we thank you for all your support for our clothing drive, for participating in the Holiday Meal programs, and for your prayers and contributions.
Since September, SVDP has helped over 40 families, mostly in the areas of food, clothing, and housing. We respond to needs from people living in Newton and surrounding towns, who either call the parishes looking for help or who are referred to us by the City of Newton social workers or the Newton Housing Authority. Since COVID, we haven’t been able to meet with neighbors in person, as is our usual custom, but we have been able to conduct our visits over telephone or Zoom.
Most often, the families that come to us have been managing well enough until a crisis occurs such as a lost job or a serious illness, and they do not have a cushion to help them get by. This has been particularly true since the onset of COVID when so many families’ lives have been turned upside down.
Currently, we need more volunteers to help with this work and would love to talk to anyone interested in learning more about joining St. Vincent de Paul. Are you interested in helping those in need in our community? Please contact Dorothy Koffel (email) or by phone.
